The North Island Credit Union Amphitheater vibrated with a distinct energy last Saturday as Mexican rock legends Caifanes and Café Tacuba took the stage. This much-anticipated double-headliner delivered a night of nostalgia and raw rock, leaving the audience in a euphoric state.
In charge for opening the epic concert of the night was Café Tacuba, known for their experimental and diverse sound, bringing a vibrant and eclectic performance.
The band seamlessly blended their alternative rock with folk, electronic and energy driven signature style. Their setlist took the audience on a musical journey that ranged from their earliest hits to their latest new single. Featuring songs like ‘Chilanga Banda’, “El baile y el salón”, “El futuro” and for the first time since 2019 their ovationed “La ingrata”. As always, Cafe Tacuba’s lead singer Ruben Albarrán commanded the stage with his high energy and charisma. Their playful interactions with the crowd created a vibrant atmosphere. Their set did not disappoint.
Caifanes, the veteran rockers, unleashed a powerful and mystical setlist that spanned their iconic career. They flawlessly navigated classics like “Mátenme Porque Me Muero” and “Afuera”, arousing passionate singalongs from the crowd. The vocalist Saúl Hernández’s voice, still potent after all these years, soared effortlessly over the driving rhythms.
Their rendition of “Áfuera” caught the audience by surprise seemingly starting off as a mid tempo jam and slowly morphing into the sound that the hit is known for.
Missing from their set and expected by Caifanes fans, who were by the way the vast majority of the audience was “La célula que explota”, “La negra tomasa” and “Perdí mi ojo de venado”.
Overall this concert was a true celebration of Mexican rock en español were both Caifanes and Café Tacuba demonstrated why they are considered legends in their respective genres. The night was filled with nostalgic anthems, a packed Amphitheatre, electrifying performances, and a palpable connection between the bands and their dedicated fans. This is a tour that you don’t want to miss if it’s coming to a city near you.
